Texas Holdem Poker Rules - Sequence of Events
- In Holdem Poker the players to the left of the dealer being the round by posting the blind bets.
- Two cards are dealt to each player at the table, these cards are face down and can only be viewed by individual players.
- Next comes the first round of betting where each player had the option to fold, bet, or raise. In the first round of betting players can only bet once and raise three times. In the first round players cannot "check" as the Blinds are bets and they're not antes.
- At this point three communal cards called the "FLOP" are dealt face-up in the center of the Texas Holdem poker table. Each and every communal card is active for all the players at the table and can be used in combination with the first two cards dealt to the player.
- Then the second round of betting takes place and the options in this betting round are to check, fold, bet or raise.
- A fourth communal card also known as the "TURN" card is dealt face up. This card is used by players as well to form the best possible hand in combination with the first two cards dealt to the players and the cards dealt on the "FLOP".
- At this point the third betting round commences and the players options are to check, fold, bet or raise.
- If at this point in the round there are still two players going at it for the pot a fifth and final communal card know as the "RIVER" card is dealt face up.
- The final round of betting occurs.
- Now comes the Showdown where all the remaining players around the table create the best five-card hand possible of the two cards in their hands and the five communal cards on the table.
- The best hand will win the pot, however if two or more players have the same winning hand the pot will be divided equally between them.
